Synopsis: “Spider-Man” follows the story of Peter Parker, an ordinary high school student who gains superhuman abilities after being bitten by a genetically modified spider. He gains strength, agility, and the ability to cling to surfaces. Peter initially uses his powers for personal gain, but after his Uncle Ben is murdered, he realizes that “with great power comes great responsibility.” He adopts the persona of Spider-Man to protect the citizens of New York City from crime, facing off against the villainous Green Goblin, who threatens the city and those Peter loves.

Plot Overview: Peter Parker is a shy high school student living with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben. He has a crush on his neighbor Mary Jane Watson. During a school field trip, Peter is bitten by a genetically engineered spider and develops spider-like abilities. After his Uncle Ben is killed by a burglar Peter could have stopped earlier, Peter resolves to use his powers to fight crime as Spider-Man. Meanwhile, Norman Osborn, the father of Peter’s best friend Harry, becomes the Green Goblin after an experiment goes wrong. As Spider-Man, Peter must stop the Green Goblin from wreaking havoc on New York City while also dealing with his complicated relationship with Mary Jane and the pressures of his double life.

Reception: “Spider-Man” was a critical and commercial success, praised for its direction, action sequences, visual effects, and the performances of Tobey Maguire and Willem Dafoe. It helped to usher in a new era of superhero films and established Spider-Man as a major cinematic character.

Sequels and Legacy: The film’s success led to two direct sequels, “Spider-Man 2” (2004) and “Spider-Man 3” (2007), both directed by Sam Raimi. The film remains influential and is often credited with revitalizing the superhero genre, leading to the modern era of superhero blockbusters.
